Call or request a time
Tell us which rooms worry you and roughly when you need it done. Hospital and rehab discharges are moved to the front of the schedule — say the discharge date and we will work backward from it.
Walkthrough & placement
We find the framing, check the wall type, and tape the proposed placement so the person who will use the bar can try the reach before anything is drilled.
Flat-rate quote
The full price in writing, hardware included, before a single hole is made. You approve it or we pack up. There is no charge for the visit either way.
Install & load test
Bars go in, penetrations get sealed, dust gets vacuumed, and every bar takes an adult's full weight while you watch.
What the visit actually looks like
You get a two-hour arrival window and a call when the installer is on the way. Most people are surprised by how little of the appointment is drilling.
The first fifteen minutes are spent watching. If the person who needs the bar is willing, we ask them to show us how they get into the tub or up from the toilet today — hand on the sink, hand on the towel bar, whatever they have been improvising. That improvised handhold tells us exactly where the real bar belongs, and it is often four to six inches from where the box instructions would have put it.
Then we map the wall. Stud finder first, confirmation drill second, because tile, mortar bed, and old lath all lie to a stud finder. If there is framing where we need it, the bar goes in with lag screws. If there is not, we tell you the three options and what each costs before we choose one.
Drilling a bathroom wall properly takes patience: slow speed, the right bit for the surface, a vacuum at the hole, and silicone in every penetration before the flange is tightened down. Then the load test, the cleanup, and a walkthrough with whoever needs to see it.
How long it takes
One bar
45 to 60 minutes, start to finish, including the walkthrough and cleanup.
A full bathroom
About 90 minutes for two or three bars at the tub, shower, and toilet.
Whole home
Half a day when handrails, entry work, or added blocking are part of the job.
How to prepare
Nothing here is required. Each one makes the visit shorter and the placement better.
- Have the person who will use the bar there, if you can — placement is set to their body, not the room
- Clear the tub surround and the wall around the toilet
- Know which hand they favor and which side is stronger
- Have the discharge date handy if this is tied to a hospital or rehab stay
- In a rental, get written landlord permission first, or ask us about no-drill options
- Tell us in advance about a recent fall, a new walker, or a change in vision
About the price
The quote covers the bar, the hardware, the labor, the sealing, and the cleanup. The two things that legitimately change a price are wall conditions we cannot see until we open something up, and a bar you want that we do not stock. In both cases you hear the new number and approve it before we continue — a surprise on the invoice is a failure on our end, not a normal part of the job.
How fast can you come out?
Most customers are scheduled within the same week. Hospital and rehab discharges get priority, so tell us the discharge date when you call and we will work around it.
Can a grab bar go on a tile wall?
Yes. Tile is routine for us. We drill with diamond or carbide bits at low speed, seal every penetration with silicone, and anchor into the framing behind the tile. The risk is cracking, which is a technique problem, not a tile problem.
Do I need to buy the grab bars first?
No. We carry standard lengths and finishes on the truck. If you want a specific finish or a decorative bar, buy it and we will install it — as long as it is a real load-rated bar and not a suction-cup product.
How long does the appointment take?
A single bar takes 45 to 60 minutes. A typical bathroom with two or three bars takes about 90 minutes. Whole-home projects with handrails and entry work can run half a day.
Will you make a mess?
We use drop cloths, shoe covers, and a vacuum at the drill. The bathroom is left cleaner than we found it. Drilling tile makes dust; catching it is part of the job.
