Choosing a length<\/h2>\n\n\n\n Longer is not automatically better. Diameter, texture, and finish<\/h2>\n\n\n\n A bar you cannot grip is not support. The comfortable range for most hands is 1¼ to 1½ inches in diameter, mounted with about 1½ inches of clearance to the wall — enough for fingers to wrap, not so much that an arm can slip through and catch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Texture matters more than finish. A wet hand slides on polished chrome; knurled, peened, or powder-coated surfaces hold. If someone in the house has arthritis or reduced grip strength, texture is the first thing we recommend and the last thing anyone thinks about at the store.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stainless steel is the honest default: it does not rust, it takes abuse, and it comes in brushed, polished, white, and bronze. Designer bars that look like towel bars are fine as long as they carry a real load rating — we will tell you which ones do.<\/p>\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
